Fics like Burn a little brighter

“They used to say recurring dreams were a sign your soulmate needed your help. Do our soulmates need us?” “You’re just quoting Gran Gran,” Sokka grumbles. “We don’t have soulmates.” “But what if we do?” Sokka turns his head to where the slit in the tent has parted open from the wind, allowing him to see where a campfire is burning outside. He has nightmares of a mother he's never met leaving, of a weight of failure so deep in his chest he can't breathe, of pain ripping across his eye, burning its permanent mark into his skull. Katara has nightmares of drowning underwater- encasing herself in ice for a lonely eternity. They aren't real. They don’t come from soulmates. Sokka and Katara are just unlucky.
