Fics like the road (that leads me to your door)

"you got everything, pony?" "yeah, hold on," ponyboy feels like he's moving through water, stumbling around the room as he goes. it's pitch dark in the house, and they have to move quickly, he knows. he fumbles for the bag he packed hours before, trying not to wake up soda as he goes. he doesn't have time to check for the books, the snacks, the bit of money he'd gotten doing homework for other greasers. he just fumbles it into his hands, goes to the open window and pushes it through. dallas catches the bag, and then ponyboy carefully climbs out the window, legs dangling out until dallas yanks him downward, feet touching the grass quietly. johnny is alone when he stabs bob sheldon. dallas hides him on jay mountain and decides that when he goes to check on him, he'll take ponyboy with him. jay mountain's a good day trip or so away so, they have some time to themselves.
