Fics like the melt

He's doing maintenance on his Kineema today, on his day off. Partly it is because he needs an excuse to get out of his apartment, at least as far as the ground-floor garage. Partly he hopes that the routine will cool him, or distract him from the heat. It does neither, but it does relax him. The world moves out of his control, pieces shifting and rearranging whenever he turns his back- but this engine block only moves when he wishes it to, only needs some elbow-grease and care to operate at peak efficiency. It doesn't ask anything of him that he is unable to give to it, with pleasure. Partly, he is down here because he needed an excuse. Something to be doing that would justify saying no. Kim is having a perfectly normal day off, by himself. Which is what he prefers. Definitely.
