Fics like You Didn't Ask

Zelda said he could ask her anything about his past upon learning how little he remembered. He had asked her only a few questions. What was the point of asking when knowing wouldn’t change anything? “Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked, the words shooting out of his mouth like air deflating from a balloon. He heard how accusatory his voice was, he knew how unfair the question was, but he couldn’t take back the words, no matter how badly he wanted to. Why would she have told him? When would she have told him? What would she have even said? He frowned in distaste at his own coarseness, a bitterness in his mouth that further upset his appetite. Zelda opened her mouth to defend herself, eyes damp, but no words came out. It hurt to look at her, so he looked away, blinking hard to try to clear his head. Her voice came softly, quaking and unsteady. “You didn’t ask.”
