Fics like this time next year

Important. Important. Important things fade like dust. Like he did. And that memory used to be so sharp that it would haunt him at night, but now he’s losing it, too. In pieces, in—large chunks. Small mercies? He laughs, and it’s bitter. Like arugula. Tony keeps trying to get him to eat arugula. It’s good for you, bud, and all the best ones on the cooking channel use it— “By the end of the year,” Peter whispers. “We—you—you will be okay. By the end of the year. The end of the year, we—you—will be off the oxygen, dis—disconnected from the stupid IV, and walking, talking—remembering normal. That’s it. That’s—that’s it.”
