Fics like Flicker and Fade

The red lights began moving without warning – resembling a hundred laser pointers, controlled by separate people but still eerily in sync – and they kept moving until they converged on Louie’s chest in a single red dot, like a target. “I don’t think Uncle Donald worries enough,” Louie said, in a choked sort of voice that he couldn’t hear over his own heartbeat. “Louie—” Huey’s frantic warning was cut off as the device beeped once – loudly – and the light on his chest abruptly turned blue. Then the machine exploded. Or, Louie goes to the lab one day to see the new invention that Huey's been excited about. Something goes wrong. Something goes really wrong.
