Fics like no more candle in the wind

Sam is standing in the middle of the war room, looking up at the stairs. Dean follows his gaze and freezes. Dean puts down his gun. His legs lead him towards the stairs though he makes no conscious effort to walk. His blood is suddenly so noisy in his ears and his hands are shaking. If he drops the gun, it’ll go off. Dean gets a hold of himself and hides the gun. And then Sam is staring at him. Dean feels it, but can’t look at him. Can’t look away from… “Cas,” his voice is low and quiet and pathetic and Cas can hardly hear him from the top of the stairs. He starts walking down and Dean’s heart starts beating faster. “What did you do?” Sam asks Dean and Dean has no idea what he means. He doesn’t look at Sam. OR Dean is wrecked after Cas's goodbye and wants him back more than anything, but when his wish does come true, nothing works out the way he'd want to. Post-finale, but fuck the actual episode; happy ending because they deserve it
