Jack is 18, and he just got a job at the fire department. He's excited but also terrified, because his shift partner is even more intimidating than he expected. Jack has a lot to learn about firefighting and EMS, but underneath it all he's just searching for a sense of belonging. Dean has been a firefighter for a long time. He's not interested in explaining the things he knows by heart to the new kid. His frustration, though, might be a symptom of something else: the gradual realization that he may live and die without a life partner, and without ever coming to terms with his sexuality. Enter Cas. Cas is Jack's adoptive father, and on the surface it seems he has everything figured out. He's openly gay, owns a small but successful coffee shop, and has a lovely home where he lives with his son. But he has a tumultuous past, one that he's never fully been able to escape. No one has ever told him that maybe it's not avoidance he should be working toward, but acceptance.
