Fics like a holy and humbling mystery

“Uh, Shifu,” Chengling follows him into the kitchen like an anxious puppy, fluttering around and trying to peer over his shoulder, “are you sure about this? Shouldn’t we wait for Uncle Wen? He said I shouldn’t mess around the kitchen when he’s not here…” “Don’t be absurd, it’s a meal, not a battlefield,” he huffs, pointedly not thinking how much easier a battlefield would realistically be, “we’ll be fine. Now, get the ginger, it should be in,” coming up with a blank, he looks around the kitchen. Where should it be in? Well, probably somewhere not too difficult to find. “Here somewhere,” he decides on, very diplomatically. Chengling makes a noise. “It’s just that, Shifu, Uncle Wen also told me to warn him before you, er, burned down the kitchen again.” Of course he did. Why did he ever think Wen Kexing would let him live that down so soon? “Your Uncle Wen isn’t here right now,” Zhou Zishu says, very pleasantly, and begins gutting the fish with enthusiasm, “and the kitchen isn’t burning. Now, do you want to go get the ginger or do handstands outside?” Wise beyond his years, Chengling goes look for the ginger. * or, two spoiled young masters try their hand at lunch.
