Fics like puppets held together with string

“Try not to die on the first day of school, Riz”, she said and there was sincerity in her voice. As sad as it sounded, however mean she was, Aelwyn Abernant was the closest thing he had for a friend the last few years. They were just two teenagers, not so subtly manipulated by forces beyond their control. It helped to be honest and open with someone, even if that someone was a stuck up, rich, high elf. Riz would have still killed her if Kalina ordered him to, but he’d like to think that he’d hesitate a bit. ~ or, a freshman year's retelling, where Riz is balancing being Kalina's spy, working towards bringing an evil dragon back to power and being tasked protecting a bunch of idiots who can't jump over tables. Somehow, the power of friendship is involved?
