Fics like A Confession With Flowers and...Words...

Gwaine had gotten him a flower, which didn't sound like much, but when you added in that he'd snuck into the royal gardens to gather one for him, it made it much more sentimental. A kingdom's royal gardens are tenderly cared for, filled with the best flowers that only royalty received as compliments of beauty. There was no doubt in Merlin's mind that Gwaine was entirely aware of all that. [Or] After being cared for by Merlin while he recovers, Gwaine finds himself with feelings for the servant and is making foreign romantic gestures to court him. He also finds himself extremely protective of Merlin when two knights suddenly take an uncomfortable interest in Merlin. [Set in s3e4 "Gwaine"]
