Fics like A Taste of His Own Medicine

By the time they reach the stairs, Anatole is limping unevenly, leaning on his cane. Some morbid part of Fedya wants to ask what happened: without an explanation, his mind is all too willing to fill in the gaps. Shrapnel. Gangrene. Compartment Syndrome. Partial paralysis. Medical terms the field doctors bandied around, words that splinter against Anatole’s beauty. In the end, all he does ask, seeing Anatole struggle with the stairs, is: “Does it hurt?” Anatole looks up. For a moment, his face is blank, before he flashes a brilliant smile. “Oh, no, mon cher.” Leaning down, he knocks on his shin, and it rings dully. “It’s wood!”
