The boy is cold, that much is clear. He’s shivering, thin as a switch and trembling like a leaf in a storm, even though the door of the tavern slammed shut behind him more than a few minutes ago. That the warmth of the inn still hasn’t seeped into him speaks to how long he must have been outside, freezing down to his bones. Cas feels cold just looking at him, and he wants to tell the boy to go sit by the fire, to warm himself up. He doesn’t think his offer would be welcome, however, as the boy seems to be doing everything in his power to avoid Cas’s attention. Hiding in the shadows, the boy makes himself as small as possible, only rarely daring to glance furtively over to the counter that Cas stands behind. He seems to be checking to see if Cas has noticed him, and seems relieved as Cas pretends that he hasn’t. **** Cas is an overworked teenager who just lost his father, and is trying to run the tavern that's been left to him on his own. Dean knows nothing but mistreatment, and will do anything for a full stomach and a warm place to sleep.
