Kori was not going to just take on his oh-so-important duties without a fight. He had shit to do, places to see, and magic to learn. If the human realm had taught him anything, it was that he had every right to want his independence. At 57 he had more years than half the life expectancy of a human, yet he was treated as a youngling despite having hit full maturity over five years ago. He had hundreds of good breeding years. Why should he rush into bed with five men he hadn't even picked for himself? What was in it for him? Sure, his husbands got a good lay with the coveted prize of a Variat but he was stuck gestating and laying eggs day in and day out; expected to be happy with being confined to castle grounds and guarded day and night; no magic, no hunting, no sparring, and nothing remotely interesting or fun. Why did he have to be born the Variat?
