Fics like Bite Size

THROW Connor knows he’s fucked as soon as he picks up the bone. Curses taste like licking a battery, copper and heat spilling over his tongue. He blows his whistle and the dig site clears in record time, just like the drills but with more swearing. Connor stands in the center of an expanding circle of silence until the dog arrives. Massive paws, shaggy black fur, slobbering jaws. An expectant expression. Connor blinks. Throws. The dog booms a joyful bark and chases, plowing heedlessly through the grid markers, returning with all three tails wagging to drop the bone at Connor’s feet. (2020 Inktober drabble anthology)
