The loss of his foster mom and older sister and own room leave a hole in his heart that makes tears burn in his eyes. He doesn’t let them fall because Andrew has the bunk above him and last time he cried Andrew said, “Why don’t I give you a you a reason?” and then he pounded a row of bruises across Jackson’s chest until he learned to hold it in. Jackson is seven years old. This is nothing new.
