Fics like partly frozen, partly flowing

“Can’t you understand,” Lan Xichen asked him helplessly, kneeling across the table from him in the Hanshi, where he had been told to stay until punishment was decided, “can’t you see that what he’s doing is wrong? It’s killing him. It’s warping him. And he has harmed so many, Wangji.” Lan Wangji only looked at him, suddenly so impassive, so unknowable. It made Lan Xichen want to cry. “I can’t say whether he has done right or wrong,” Lan Wangji told him. “I don’t know myself. All I can say is that—right or wrong, I will be by his side until the end.” There was no answer to that, not really. To discourage Lan Wangji from this idea would be to discourage him from loving, and Lan Xichen has always known that to be impossible. All he could do was nod as his brother looked at him, and finished, calmly, “Zewu-jun, I accept any punishment you see fit.” — the thirty-three lashes, and after.
