Fics like how a little boy's love saved the weeping monk

Unsure of how to proceed now that his plan to save the child has succeeded, the monk steers the horse in a random direction, his only goal now to put distance between them and the paladins’ camp. He knows that he should take the boy to his people, but he does not know where they have gone and he is sure they would not welcome the sight of him should he be able to find him. He knows their hate for him is just, that it’s probably better still than what he truly deserves. But deep down, he can’t help but yearn for the kindness the Green Knight had shown him, can’t help but wish he could have the life that the Green Knight’s words of brotherhood promised. (alternatively titled 'how squirrel came to have two dads')
