A wave of vertigo rolls over Alfred’s person at the sight, the room spinning as a sweat breaks over his skin. I need him. His cross burns now, singeing his skin with a brand of God's divinity. He's crossed a line now, but there is still time if he wishes to put an end to this folly. "Everywhere," he says, and his cross alights, incinerating his throat as Uhtred advances.
