Three years from the end of the novel, Wei Wuxian continues to live freely, albeit quietly, resigned to keeping silent amidst continued hostility from Yunmeng Jiang, and the cultivation world at large. However, as old grievances tighten around him, threatening to ensnare him in a plot to put him to trial, he and Lan Wangji must find a way to defend his actions. Jiang Cheng turns out to be an unexpected ally. This turn of events may very well force them to confront the wrongs they have committed against each other, and apologize for past feuds. Alternative summary: Am I The Asshole? Yunmeng Jiang loyalists plot to have Wei Wuxian publicly labeled as The Asshole. Jiang Cheng is bewildered, seeing as he thinks that The Asshole is himself. In other news, when you’re both bad at talking about feelings, mutually unrequited forgiveness happens.
