Fics like The Wandering Kind

"“Er, I’m fine, thanks. By any chance, are you aware that there’s a dragon living in your suitcase?” Harry asked, still somewhat baffled. “Well, are you aware there’s an owl perched on your shoulder?” The other boy said, and inclined his chin in Hedwig’s direction. Harry laughed at that. “That’s Hedwig—she’s my friend,” he replied, and stroked her soft head. The other boy looked on in clear approval. He seemed to like animals as much as Harry did. He wondered if they could be friends." - Newt was, perhaps, the strangest, most unconventional person Harry had ever known. He loved him for it. He would follow him wherever he went, even to the far reaches of the known wizarding world. Newt was his first friend. That meant something to Harry, who had grown up unloved and alone. He'd make sure Newt never felt the same—no matter what.
