Fics like the exception proves the rule

Wei Ying laughs shakily. "I'm glad you're behind me on this single-plank bridge. I was prepared to do it alone, you know." "Not behind," says Lan Wangji, heart in his mouth as he dares to say it. "What?" "Not behind you. Beside you. On the single-plank bridge." Wei Ying straightens up, his lips twitching. "That makes no sense, Lan Zhan. It's a single plank, there isn't room for both of us to walk across side-by-side." - The canon divergence where Lan Wangji stands in the rain with an umbrella and looks into Wei Ying's eyes and follows him.
