Harry wasn’t stupid, he was almost sorted into Slytherin for Merlin’s sake. He knows that Tom Riddle’s interested, even if the poor guy didn’t seem to know it himself. The bloody idiot’s almost revealed his own feelings, like about twelve times, but then again Harry wasn’t sorted into Slytherin for a reason. He was kind, and he couldn’t help but feel a little bad for the emotionally constipated Slytherin Prefect. So, he decided to help out by trying to make Riddle realize that no, he would be a terrible candidate for the top student’s love interest. It started on the Quidditch Pitch, and of course it bloody well did. Alternatively, Harry's first sabotaging of Tom’s attempts at asking him out, much to Tom’s future confusion and frustration.
