Fics like Fins (A Siren Fanfiction)

Bristol Cove 1868. Orphaned and disfigured, 18 year old Soot has always been stigmatized by the residents of his small fishing town. In the hope of bettering himself and to get in good with founder Captain Charles H. Pownall, he agrees to babysit his mistress who harbors a secret. Things become complicated when a merman watches ashore, forcing Soot to befriend and teach the strange creature how to adapt to human ways. As the pair grow closer, a conflict between merfolk and humans tests his loyalty that eventually will lead to a historical tragedy.
