Fics like get us right (quitters never win)

Pete is just so vivid. Most of the time emotions come to Patrick abstractly—happy, sad, embarrassed, whatever. Sure, people he’s close to might have empathetic signatures—like, a lot of times his brother sounds like an orchestra, or his sister’s emotions come to him in colors, or his mom feels like fire (usually a homey hearth, but he’s felt how hot she can rage and how protective she can burn)—but Pete showed up on Patrick’s doorstep a complete stranger and felt like an overgrown forest, and he’s been loud and wildly inconsistent imagery ever since. (an AU where everything's the same, but they have superpowers)
