Fics like the thing about earthquakes

or, a moment of weakness, love among lightning and the tranquility that comes out of it - Once, he remembers—even still—Edgeworth had hated crying, in front of him or in front of anybody. It was weak, he said. Went against the perfection that Von Karma had so strongly molded him into, went against the image of Chief Prosecutor he had built around himself, went against the twenty-six years of making himself strong enough that he wouldn’t need to do this. “It’s okay,” Phoenix had wanted to say. “It’s okay. You can cry. It’s okay.” Back then, he hadn’t said it, if only because Edgeworth had been so furious with himself, so much that it had scared him, so much that the years of terror Von Karma had instilled in him had wormed their way back out and had left Phoenix, even if only momentarily, with a glimpse of Edgeworth all those years ago, a terrified nine year-old with the weight of the world on his shoulders and a pistol in his hands, who would be wailing if only there were oxygen to spare.
