Fics like The Gladiators

In this alternate universe, Tougas have the opportunity to make a good living as gladiators for entertainment arena fighting. The best fighters have the support of a magic user, a Sanga, who lends his power through song. Sangas are bred and raised specifically for this purpose and sold as slaves. We start the story with a powerful, seasoned Touga, Rai, who has recently lost his beloved Sanga in battle. Because Rai is running low on funds, he visits the local trader to look for a replacement, but he's waited just a little too long and has to "settle" for a less expensive slave. He is offered a young kitten who has been returned by his first owner after less than two weeks because he has refused to sing. Sangas who don't sing run the risk of depleting their Mana and losing their lives or becoming ill. But he has been severely traumatized by his previous owner, and Rai is hesitant to form a new bond after the painful death of his previous Sanga and lover.
