Fics like old jokes from a wild youth

“My sister called my mom from school and told her she’d started having dreams about this guy who she saw in one of her classes. And how would she know if he’s her soulmate and isn’t it so great if she found the person she’s gonna spend her life with and—” He's forced to pause and take a breath and in that time Minghao blinks, his slight smile melting away into a frown. Mingyu doesn’t pick up the story again but Minghao seems to have caught on to what he was so worried about, anyway. “And your mom called you,” Minghao says, his thumb following the line of Mingyu’s cheekbone. “Because you’re with me.” They are not soulmates and they never will be.
