Fics like You to Guide Me

The boy’s eyes looked her up and down, and for a second Freya thought: he has old eyes. As young as this kid might be, there was something in his face that said he’d already seen some shite and come out the other side. Her musings were broken when he grinned and said, “Heya, ratface.” It was delivered perfectly innocently, friendly and warm, as if he really felt it the proper way to greet a Burmecian. Freya had a split second to choose between being mature and professional or being herself, but she’d already made that choice for good, so she replied almost charmingly, “Hey, monkeybutt.” The kid’s face lit up beatifically, and he laughed, a nice rich sound for all he was almost half her height. “We are going to get along beautifully,” he said, with all the surety of a Cleyran priestess. [when Freya and Zidane first met, pre-game, and how they affected each other in ways neither one realized.]
