Fics like Family of Choice

After they are driven out of their home, Fíli, his brother, and their uncle find refuge in the unlikely home of two hobbits. Gandalf said they’d be safe there, but only Thorin can keep them safe. Thorin has already lost everything. All he has left are his nephews and even now he worries that they will be lost to him as well. He doesn’t trust the hobbits, especially the female one. She seems far too interested in his nephews for his liking. Kíli misses his mom. He knows he should be more cautious, but he likes the hobbits. He especially likes the lady one. She reminds him of his mom. Briar never fit in the Shire. She was always too different. But maybe, her place was always meant to be in the mountains instead of hills. Bilbo always knew his job was to protect his little sister. She was the only family he had left, after all. But family isn’t always defined by blood. Sometimes family is by choice.
