Fics like Safety and Peace

At fifteen, Altair-and-Malik had grown lean and strong. They had built a friendship cradled softly between blood and respect. The whole world lay before them, and they were primed to take whatever-they-wanted and do-what-they pleased. At sunset, out in the wild dirt beyond the safe walls of a close city, Altair said (into the fading light): “promise you’ll kill me if I turn Omega.” “Promise me the same,” Malik said. And Altair promised him, with the last slant of sunlight falling across his pale face.
