Fics like an angel like a memory

Sledge gives one last gurgle before going silent. His wide eyes are locked on Snafu’s face, impossibly dark in the stillness that follows. All light has fled from them. There is nothing left behind but stillness, a shadow of death. Slowly, Snafu exhales. He lowers his head to Sledge’s blood-soaked chest, feeling hot liquid stain his forehead. By now he does not care about that, or about the bullets whizzing over their heads. He is very tired. Back again, then. Damn it.
