Fics like the place between places

The soldier standing in front her is not familiar. He’s thin and tall and haggard looking but Jyn thinks he can’t be too much older than her despite the weariness of his features. He’s as drenched as she is, if not more, his wet hair still dripping into his eyes. Jyn stares up at him, her clenched jaw aches. She can’t find her voice. The soldier clears his throat, raises a hand. There’s something clenched in it. He offers it to her. “In case you’re cold.” He says. His voice is gentle but the set of his mouth gives him away, the shadow of awkwardness that lingers under each carefully enunciated word. Jyn doesn’t help him, doesn’t reach for the jacket in his hand. She just keeps staring. [Or: After years held hostage by the Empire, Jyn is rescued from Eadu during a rebel attack.]
