Fics like Independence Day

“Sir, I'd like to stop and visit my family and Philadelphia when I deliver the next dispatch.” “The other members of this army do not have such a privilege, soldier.” “No sir, they don't.” The plan had been to stay a night with the rest of his family – if they'd have him; he knew some were still wary of revolution, and he knew that he'd been the only one willing to actually join the Continentals – and deliver the dispatch to the Congress the following morning. “It would take any other soldier I send twice as long as you do to deliver and return your messages. One day, Jones, I will allow it.” As plans do, particularly in wartime, this plan turned out rather differently.
